Learning Support and Wellbeing play an important role in the school's strategic plan and the Director of Learning Support and Wellbeing plays a key role in developing the school's plan for the transition to skills-based learning.
The Director of Learning Support and Wellbeing supports all students with a focus on those with learning needs, which may include ADHD, specific learning difficulties, dysgraphia, dyslexia and other language difficulties, executive functioning disorders involving memory and information processing, and helps students who are experiencing anxiety or other emotional problems that affect learning. Support includes helping students to develop strategies that best suit individual learning needs and learning styles and helping to implement adaptations.
Recognizing that wellness is central to learning, the principal has primary day-to-day responsibility for programs focused on student health and wellness. The Director works with academic and student administrators to oversee existing programs and develop new ones to address health issues, supports faculty and students in their work with students on health issues, and maintains resources to support these programs.

- Collaborate with the Provost, Director of Student and Campus Life, other administrators, and faculty to provide academic support to students
- Manage large numbers of students with learning support needs, develop individualized action plans and accommodation plans for specific learning and course needs
- Create a pleasant, inclusive, legal and interactive process for families seeking student accommodation
- Use formative and summative practices to assess and analyze student strengths and needs; document student progress and achievements; design and implement appropriate instruction to facilitate learning and growth
- Guide teachers to learn differentiated techniques to support student learning in line with master learning
- Support classroom teachers in implementing personalized learning plans
- Collaborate with academic and student administrators to plan, prepare, and lead professional development opportunities for individuals, small groups, and faculty
- Visit and observe classrooms, gather evidence of tailored work to support learning and wellbeing and gain a first-hand insight into each teacher's work
- Coordinate and recommend additional support as needed and appropriate, such as counselors or psycho-educational assessors
- Work with the Testing Coordinator to ensure standardized tests (SAT, ACT, AP) are approved
- Provide educational assessment/assessment services and refer to external assessments when necessary and appropriate
- Stay current with accepted and relevant teaching theory, practice, and research
- Develop a solid knowledge of the curriculum, including essential information, concepts and skills to better support students and assist teachers in the classroom.
- Develop and maintain frequent communication with parents/guardians regarding the student's academic, social and emotional success, progress and needs
- Collaborate and mentor teachers on best instructional practices, effective classroom management (routines and procedures), and differentiation to ensure a safe, orderly, positive, enjoyable, and productive learning environment for all students
- Collaborate with counselors, home parents and co-curricular leaders to ensure student understanding and support in all aspects of school life
- Attend weekly meetings with the Student Support Team

- Evaluate existing wellness programs and develop new ones to support those that align with the school's mission and vision
- Lead efforts to comprehensively develop, implement and monitor school programs that support the goal of happy STU graduates
- Participate in events or provide advice on wellness counseling programs
- Follows the school program of social-emotional learning in cooperation with the Department for Social Research.
- Gain insight into student well-being using available tools and technologies such as the Nurture platform in Oroh
- Collaboration with school counselors and school nurses on service needs and plans
additional responsibility
- Assist the Office of Enrollment Management in marketing and recruiting for the Learning Support Program, including conversations with prospective families, educational advisors, and other partners
- Assist the Director of Enrollment Management in reviewing application materials for students applying to Stuart Hall, including those who demonstrate identified learning needs or who may need additional support for emotional well-being
- Collaborates with appropriate offices and individuals to develop and implement mid-year orientation programs and orientation programs for new and beginning students.

- Participating in extracurricular activities and privacy programs and performing school administrative functions expected of all school staff as determined in cooperation with the Dean of the Faculty, the Dean of Student College and Campus Life, and the Principal.
This is a job position of the administrative faculty and is intended for faculty members who also need to perform administrative tasks outside the school year. Administrative faculty members typically have the same vacation time as other faculty members during the school year and often enjoy summer vacations like other faculty members with a limited number of projects and assignments to complete during the summer.

- Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Educational Administration, Psychology or related field
- At least 4 years of experience teaching students with diagnosed learning differences or working as a learning specialist with a focus on students in grades 9-12.
- Ability to work confidentially and collaborate with students, staff and families
- Strong commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Additional background and experience: If you have any of the following skills or experience, we encourage you to highlight them in your application, but please note that the absence of any of these will not adversely affect your candidacy
- Master's degree or graduate degree in education, special education, educational administration, psychology or related field
- Experience of proactive and independent work
- Proven experience in designing, implementing and managing a program or a program that involves leading others (this experience is not requiredlearning support-related)
